Using the Waves from Earthquakes to See Inside Our Planet

Professor Wysession, at Washington University in St. Louis will show how he uses the seismic waves from large earthquakes to make pictures of the Earth’s deep interior, like a medical X-ray or CT scan. He will talk about traveling to places like Minnesota and Madagascar to install seismometers to learn why some volcanoes erupt where they do and piece together the ancient history of the tectonic motions of the continents.
