Go as deep as desired with inquiry models that have been carefully designed to meet a variety of classroom needs and comfort levels.

  • Option 1

Ease into inquiry — Inquiry Support for Individual Content Readers. Students are introduced to inquiry-based learning in a flexible, simple way:

    • A clear diagram models the four-step inquiry process at the beginning of each book.
    • In each book, a focus question and embedded inquiry prompts guide students through each step of the inquiry process.
    • The inquiry prompts are listed at the back of each book to help students reflect on what they have learned relating to the focus question for the book and/or the inquiry question for the Collection.
  • Option 2

Go deep — Inquiry Support for an Entire Collection:

    • The Inquiry Collections are designed for teachers and students who want to dive into a rich and robust inquiry unit.
    • Teachers introduce provocations to spark student wonder about the Inquiry Collection.
    • Students read books within the Inquiry Collection that are appropriate for their reading level. The books can be used for whole-group, small-group, or independent reading.
    • As a group, students examine how their thinking has changed as they discuss their questions, find out more information, and make sense of and reflect on their learning.
    • The Inquiry Teaching Guide supports teachers through the inquiry process with practical support and strategies, including talking and writing opportunities for students, assessment information, MLL support, and professional learning.
